Making history at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas as the first all-Chinese UFC title fight, the stakes were high for Zhang Weili and Yan Xiaonan at UFC 300 on Saturday, April 13th.
Zhang Weili emerged victorious in a hard-fought battle to defend her women’s strawweight title against Yan Xiaonan at UFC 300.
Despite Weili’s dominant performance, the fight had its share of twists, including a bizarre moment in the first round when Xiaonan appeared to briefly lose consciousness.
The bout highlighted the resilience of both fighters, with Xiaonan rallying back after the first round to challenge the champion. However, Weili’s superior grappling and control in the later rounds secured her the unanimous decision victory, with all three judges scoring the fight 49-45 in her favor.
This fight marked a significant moment in UFC history, as the first time two Chinese fighters have competed for a UFC title. Despite the intense competition, Zhang Weili and Yan Xiaonan displayed mutual respect post-fight, with Weili expressing admiration for Xiaonan’s toughness and skills.
“Xiaonan is an amazing fighter and she’s so tough,” Zhang said. “I have so much respect for her and I want her and I to become friends after the fight. Thank you to everyone for supporting us Chinese girls.”
