In October, toy manufacturer Mattel dropped an exclusive Barbie doll in an imperial-yellow gown designed by Chinese couturier Guo Pei.
The iconic gown was first worn by Rihanna at the 2015 Met Gala.
The Barbie doll, which bears some resemblance to the Barbadian singer, has been dubbed the ‘BarbRi’ by some netizens.
In addition to wearing a golden headpiece, the doll has ornate heels modeled after Manchu platform shoes; the latter were traditionally worn during the Qing Dynasty in China.
As for the doll's elaborate gown, it bears many of the same details as the original Met Gala creation, including embroidery and appliqués made on a 1:1 scale.
Many are in awe of the mini-gown’s craftsmanship, whereas others are put off by its hefty price tag of 200 USD.
With the Barbie collaboration, Guo Pei joins a legendary group of high-fashion houses — like Balmain and Moschino — that have also worked with Mattel.
