This Trippy Bookstore Looks Like an M.C. Escher Drawing
One of the coolest bookstores in China in our humble opinion, Zhongshuge in Dujiangyan city, Sichuan province, looks like a masterpiece by Dutch surrealist M.C. Escher.
Designed by Shanghai-based architecture firm X+Living, the two-story space appears cathedral-like, with mirrored ceilings and gleaming black tile floors reflecting its bookcases.
Curved bookshelves carve up the space and create a sense of cosiness. Winding staircases and towering arches and columns emphasize the bookstore’s full height.
