Huge Cats Grace the Walls of Old Street in Shanghai

Originally named Fangbang Middle Road, this old street in Shanghai stretches 825 meters and features architectural styles from the Ming and Qing dynasties. The street has recently gone viral on Chinese social media for its adorable cat murals.

Tango, the mastermind behind the paintings, is a well-known comic artist, cartoonist, and Shanghai native.

He often uses cats drawn in a simple pencil style to make cute and humorous comics, also known as ‘therapeutic comics’ (治愈系漫画, zhiyu xi manhua) in China.

Fangbang Road, known for its old Shanghai charm and stray cats, was a perfect canvas for Tango to express his artistry and humor.

Tango also painted non-cartoon cats, using references from online images.
