Luo spent 10 years — from 2007 to 2017 — on the photo series, which was critically acclaimed and landed Luo a spot on BBC’s 100 Women in 2018.

Sporting shaved heads and arresting gazes, Luo’s subjects depict a shifting attitude towards gender expression and femininity in China.

In an interview with RADII, Luo expressed that she used the series to reflect on her life and explore her identity. She hopes audiences do the same.
