The Newest Tea Trend in China: ‘Iced Tea Around Dry Ice’
Chinese youth are going crazy over the latest summer adaptation of the ‘boiling tea around furnace’ (围炉煮茶) trend that took the country by storm during the colder seasons last year.
This new tea ritual is known as ‘iced tea around dry ice’ (围炉冰茶) and involves having a cup of iced tea with snacks served around dry ice, creating an incredible photo opportunity.
During the fall and winter of 2022, tastemakers in China enjoyed simmering pots of tea over a furnace, paired with seasonal specials like persimmons, sweet potatoes, chestnuts, peanuts, and rice cakes.
Now, as summer approaches, trendsetters are adapting the fad to include iced tea, fresh fruits, and ready-to-eat snacks.
The use of dry ice creates a visually appealing steam effect, making it a picture-perfect option for an afternoon tea hangout. Some are even calling it “fairy afternoon tea.”
