Chinese Youth are Ditching Milk Tea for Yogurt

Drinking a daily cup of milk tea has been popular in Chinese offices for a long time. But this spring, young people are abandoning milk tea in favor of drinking yogurt.

Brands like ‘Blueglass’ and ‘More Yogurt’ have become explosively popular, appearing more frequently on traditional tea brand menus.   Yogurt is not new, but why is it so popular this year?

The pandemic has heightened people’s awareness of the importance of health, causing yogurt, once popular only among fitness enthusiasts in China, to break into the mainstream.

Though more expensive than milk tea, freshly made yogurt is considered healthier, low in calories, and satisfying.

Social media has also played a role in the broad popularization of yogurt. Influencers from various backgrounds are posting yogurt photos and content on social media platforms, contributing to its widespread appeal.
