Leslie Zhang is a rising star in China’s fashion photography scene.
Some big names he’s worked for include Harper’s Bazaar, GQ, and Grazia.
Zhang’s ability to artfully capture contemporary Chinese culture through editorial-style photography has garnered him an extensive domestic and international following.
Some popular motifs in his work include flowers and bold colors like red and yellow.
In an interview with Vice, Zhang explained that his childhood memories of growing up in China and Japanese photographers have deeply influenced his work.
One of his most recent shoots for Marie Claire China used references to art pieces like Liu Ye’s ‘The Goddess’ and ‘The Birth of Venus’ by Sandro Botticelli.
Despite having found a niche in fashion photography, Zhang is also skilled in portraiture. In 2018, Zhang photographed different DJs in Shanghai for an article titled ‘Shanghai Clubbing Uprising’ in Dazed.
