On August 13, the Special Olympics Committee announced that 18-year-old Chinese snowboarder Su Yiming would be its new East Asia Ambassador henceforth.

A former child actor, Su took home the gold — China's first of many during the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022 — at the Men’s Snowboarding Big Air competition.

Good to know: The Special Olympics caters to athletes with intellectual disabilities, and the next international competition will be held in Berlin, Germany in June 2023.

The Committee said that they hoped Su’s new role would encourage more youth to educate themselves about intellectual disabilities and the sporting event.
