The Medicine-spiked Iced Coffee Trend is Harming Co
Recently, people in China have been trying a new beverage that blends iced water or coffee with a kind of traditional Chinese medicine.
The concoction was allegedly created in response to the record-breaking heatwave that swept across China this summer.
Huoxiang Zhengqi Shui, a liquid herbal formula used to treat heatstroke, colds, and headaches, is what’s being used to spike iced Americanos.
However, doctors have cautioned that excess consumption of the medicine can cause nausea, vomiting, and heart palpitations.
Social media users in China have plenty to say about the drink, with some rebuking the mix and oth
ers praising it.
“Drinking Huoxiang by itself is already intolerable. Aren’t people afraid of vomiting?”
“This is medicine, not a cocktail ingredient.”
“I can’t get enough of this shit.”
