Inside Starbucks' Greener Stores  in China

First launched in 2018, Starbucks’ Greener Stores aim to improve energy efficiency, reduce waste, and promote sustainability. The brand is committed to opening 10,000 Greener Stores by 2025.

To globally expand this program, Starbucks opened Asia’s first Greener Store in Shanghai, China, in 2021.

The Shanghai Greener Store is said to use recycled, upcycled, or biodegraded building materials such as reclaimed wood.

Over half of the store menu is plant-based, including 15 newly added items.

The shop also provides reusable cups.

Moreover, the location also occasionally hosts sustainability-themed art exhibitions.

Starbucks plans to open 60 Greener outlets in the Chinese mainland in the next few years. In addition to Shanghai, the brand’s Greener shops have reached six more Chinese cities: Suzhou, Beijing, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Nanjing, and Guangzhou.
