Busted! Actor Li Yifeng Detained for Soliciting Prostitutes

On September 11, Chinese actor Li Yifeng was detained by the police for allegedly soliciting prostitutes on multiple occasions.

Since the news broke, multiple brands, including Prada, Sensodyne, Panerai, and Rémy Martin, have ended their partnerships with Li.

The arrest has been compared to two other high-profile scandals involving idol Kris Wu and pianist Li Yundi in 2021.

The Chinese government has increased its scrutiny of celebrities in recent years due to celebrities’ perceived moral influence over fans.

Li, who has 60 million followers on Weibo, first rose to prominence after appearing on the talent show My Hero in 2007.

He notably played Mao Zedong in The Pioneer in 2021. Li is also known for starring in the TV show Swords of Legends (2014) and the film Mr. Six (2015).

Netizens have been quick to denounce the actor. Some former fans have even begun to sell their Li-related memorabilia online.
