35 Years Ago This Month, KFC Opened in China

On November 12, 1987, KFC opened its first Chinese store near Qianmen in Beijing.

At the time, it was the biggest KFC in the world. The store has three floors totaling 1,100 square feet, and it is still open to this day.

Excited Chinese consumers mobbed the restaurant for months after it opened. Case in point: in the first 24 hours, it made over 83,000 USD.

KFC was the first fast-food chain to open a store in China. Now, there are over 8,600 locations across the country.
